Pedestrian suffers internal bleeding after being struck by car on N.J. highway

A pedestrian was hospitalized with internal bleeding after she was struck by a car while trying to cross a Central Jersey highway.
The 52-year-old woman was crossing Route 31 near the East Main Street in Raritan Township on Sunday night when she was hit by a compact car, the township police department said in a news release.
The incident happened at 7:47 p.m. and the area was dimly lit, officials said.
The driver originally left the scene, but returned a short time later, authorities said.
The pedestrian is being treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for internal bleeding, police said.
The driver has since been interviewed by law enforcement. Police have not released their name or announced any charges or violations.
